The Importance of Rest for BIPOC Women and Busy Professionals

As BIPOC women and busy professionals, we often don't take the time to rest. We are always on the go, always working, and always taking care of others. But what happens when we don't take the time to rest? Our bodies and our minds suffer. If you have uttered many of the phrases “ why am I so tired all the time?, or “ I always feel exhausted”. Then it’s time to better understand the true meaning of rest. That's why it's so important for us to make sure that we're getting enough rest.

Here are 7 kinds of rest that we need to make sure we're getting:

1. Physical Rest

2. Mental Rest

3. Emotional Rest

4. Social Rest

5. Spiritual Rest

6. Professional Rest

7. Personal Rest

Let’s break this down!

1. Physical Rest:

Our bodies need physical rest in order to function properly. When we don't get enough physical rest, we are more susceptible to illness and injury. We need to make sure that we're getting enough sleep every night and that we're taking breaks during the day to relax our muscles and rejuvenate our bodies. Taking a hot bath or going for a walk are great ways to get physical rest.

2. Mental Rest:

Just like our bodies, our minds need rest in order to function properly. When we don't take the time to mentally relax, we can become easily stressed and anxious. We need to make sure that we're taking breaks during the day to clear our minds and relax our thoughts. One great way to do this is by meditating for even just 5 minutes.

3. Emotional Rest:

In order to keep our emotions in check, it's important for us to take some time out for emotional rest. When we bottle up our emotions, they can come out in negative ways, like anger or resentment. So make sure you're taking some time each day to process your emotions and release them in healthy ways, like talking to a friend or writing in a journal.

4. Social Rest:

As social creatures, we need social interaction in order to feel fulfilled. But sometimes, being around other people can be draining, especially if we're not taking the time to recharge in between social interactions. Make sure you're taking some time each day for yourself, even if it's just 10 minutes of alone time where you can disconnect from the outside world and recharge your batteries.

5 . Spiritual Rest:

For many of us, spirituality is an important part of our lives. It helps us feel connected to something bigger than ourselves and gives us a sense of peace and calmness. If you find yourself feeling disconnected or stressed, take some time out for spiritual rest by doing things like praying, meditating, or spending time in nature.

6 . Professional Rest:

If you're someone who is always working, it's important to make sure you're taking some professional rest as well. This means taking breaks during the day to step away from work-related thoughts and tasks so that you can come back refreshed and ready to work again. Try taking a walk outside or listening to calming music for a few minutes before diving back into your work tasks.

7 . Personal Rest:

Lastly, it's important for us all to take some personal rest. This means taking breaks throughout the day to do something for yourself that makes you happy. It could be reading your favorite book, going for a run, or spending time with your pet . Whatever it is that brings joy into your life , make sure you're making time for it every day

Here is what I hope you take away from this
