Signs You’re on the Course to Burnout

Burnout, stress, depression, and trauma have similar signs and symptoms. As high achievers, we may not realize that we are on the course of burnout. However, as we try to create and cultivate better lives for ourselves, we sometimes forget to take care of ourselves. Unfortunately, we can keep powering through and helping others only to realize that we can barely keep track of our well-being. Then one day, we wake up and don’t want to get up. We stay in bed and feel guilty the whole time. It’s a lot all at once. So how can you take notice of when burnout is beginning?

Here are signs you’re on the course.

  • Feeling pressure to constantly be productive and not being able to relax or take breaks

  • Not getting enough rest or sleep, despite long days

  • Feeling guilty when taking breaks or not being productive

  • Being overworked and underpaid, which can lead to negative attitudes toward work and burnout

  • Experiencing microaggressions and other forms of systemic oppression, which can impact mental health and contribute to burnout

  • Lack of understanding or belonging in work or personal relationships, which can also contribute to burnout

We have a job to protect BIPOC's mental health. These individuals are striving to do their best to thrive in this environment.
